Colorado Springs: 3 Things to See for Free

Colorado is a beautiful state. For me, summer is the best time to visit because I don’t like cold weather. Yes, I know I live in the Midwest but it doesn’t mean I like winter. Colorado summers are a great time for a family trip. Everyone knows that traveling can be expensive. Below are 3 picks for savings.

1. The Olympic Training Center – Summer tours are conducted every half hour from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm. You start by watching a short video with coverage of the last 2 Olympics. Watching the video made me so proud to be an American. I only cried a little… After the video presentation, you will be escorted throughout the grounds. You will most likely see Olympic hopefuls practicing. After the tour you can visit the Team USA Shop.

2. United States Air Force Academy – If you want to be impressed, I highly recommend a drive onto the campus. With amazing mountain views as the backdrop to this college, what is even more amazing is what is going on inside the classrooms and the athletic centers. Bright, dedicated, determined and talented individuals pouring their blood, sweat and tears into 4 years of hard work all so they can serve our country and become our future leaders. Visiting the chapel is a must. I personally want to extend my overwhelming gratitude to the men and women of all of the Armed Forces. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

3. The Garden of the Gods – Breathtaking. I am beyond amazed at how nature is mysterious, magical, and absolutely beyond words sometimes. You can go to the Visitor & Nature Center or just jump right in for a day hike with the family. Bring water. Seriously, bring water. You don’t want to have to walk back to the car because you are too thirsty to move on. You will be missing out on a lot. As you hike through the park, stop and ask yourself how those “rocks” even got there.

  1. Colorado is a beautiful state! I don’t like the cold anymore either, but the snow is some of the best in the world for skiing! Just bundle up and drink lots of hot chocolate — or hot spiced whatever!
